BASF and SINOPEC consider further expansion of Nanjing joint venture

  • Partners investigate expansion of ethylene oxide production and new neopentylglycol unit
  • Further development of acrylic acid value chain including butyl acrylate, acrylic acid and SAP: production to commence in 2014
Ludwigshafen, Germany; Nanjing , China – May 29 , 2013 -BASF and SINOPEC are considering the extension of their Nanjing joint venture BASF-YPC Company Limited with the expansion of existing ethylene oxide (EO) production, and a new plant for neopentylglycol (NPG). BASF-YPC will further expand its acrylic acid value chain with additional acrylic acid and butyl acrylate plants. Production is expected to commence in 2014.

BASF and Sinopec take next steps in establishment of world-scale isononanol plant in Maoming, China

  • Start of production expected in 2015
  • China’s first INA plant provides important feedstock for next-generation plasticizers
Beijing, China and Ludwigshafen, Germany – January 22, 2013- BASF and China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (“Sinopec”) have completed a joint feasibility study and taken the next steps in the establishment of a world-scale isononanol (INA) plant in Maoming, Guangdong, China. Under the terms of the feasibility study, a new 50-50 joint venture will be formed, BASF MPCC Co. Ltd. Preapproval has been received from the Maoming Administration of Industry and Commerce for the name of the venture. The partners expect to begin production at the new plant around the middle of 2015.

PETRONAS and BASF terminate Heads of Agreement for joint project in Pengerang, Malaysia

Ludwigshafen, Germany and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – January 21, 2013 – BASF and PETRONAS announced today that the Heads of Agreement (HoA) between the two parties for a joint speciality chemicals venture within PETRONAS’ Refinery & Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) project in Pengerang, Johor, has been terminated by mutual agreement.

BASF and Total Petrochemicals & Refining USA Inc.’s joint venture changes legal name

New LLC reflects updated ownership agreement for Port Arthur, Texas, facility
HOUSTON, TX, September 4, 2012 -- BASF Corporation and Total Petrochemicals & Refining USA, Inc. (TPRI) today announced the companies have signed agreements relating to the merger of two joint ventures and the change of the name of the merged venture to BASF TOTAL Petrochemicals LLC for the companies’ Port Arthur, Texas, joint operations. This consolidates the joint ventures that were formerly known as BASF FINA Petrochemicals Limited Partnership and Sabina Petrochemicals LLC.

BASF and SINOPEC Corp. sign Memorandum of Understanding to explore building a world-scale isononanol plant in Maoming, China

Shenzhen, China/Ludwigshafen, Germany – July 31, 2012 – BASF and China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (SINOPEC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further strengthen their cooperation by jointly exploring the possibility of building a world-scale isononanol (INA) plant in Maoming Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone, Maoming, China. The final scope of the investment will be determined following the outcome of the joint feasibility study, which is expected by the end of 2012.

Ludwigshafen, Germany and Antwerp, Belgium – July 4, 2012 – BASF plans to build a butadiene extraction plant at its Verbund site in Antwerp, Belgium. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 155,000 metric tons and is scheduled to start up during 2014. The investment amount will be in the high double-digit million euro range.

BASF to invest in a world scale acrylic acid complex in Brazil

BASF will invest in a world-scale production site for acrylic acid, butyl acrylate and superabsorbent polymers (SAP) in Camaçari, Bahia, Brazil. It will be the first acrylic acid and superabsorbents plant in South America. With an investment volume of more than €500 million, it is the largest investment in BASF’s century-long history in South America.

BASF plasticizer Hexamoll® DINCH grows from strength to strength

  • Production capacity doubles to 200,000 metric tons per year due to strong demand
  • Construction of a second production plant in Ludwigshafen increases supply security worldwide

BASF is planning to double production of its phthalate-free plasticizer Hexamoll® DINCH from 100,000 metric tons to 200,000 metric tons per year at the Ludwigshafen site by 2013. Therefore a second production plant will now be built in Ludwigshafen. This will enhance supply security worldwide while continuing to ensure consistently high quality.
